answer to the question of the week. The launch code is: CPE-1704-TKS

CPE 1704 TKS

no Q of the week? Thats what everyone on the live feed was thinking was... but NOOO, Larry said it and we couldn't hear it.

Okay, so
CPE 1704 TKS was the code it had to guess. I can't whip out the movie and check this, i'm kinda in Japan until may.
but thanks imdb
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086567/trivia

The code to launch the missiles is "CPE1704TKS" when displayed on the big screen, but it is "JPE1704TKS" when printed above the manual launch control.

Launch code / question of the week:

According to mike.passwall.com (http://mike.passwall.com/uselesstrivia/wargames.html):

End of movie, brute forced launch code (brute forced by WOPR)

There is a discrepency in the launch codes. The WOPR has one set physically
set on it (dials) while the code that is brute forced as "valid" is different:

Launch Code/password printed on "big" screen: (Noted case)
CPE1704TKS

The above launch codes found in most places near the end of the movie. With the one exception noted at the top where we see a launch code in the missle silo, and another sequence when there is focus on the WOPR (@ 01:40:29) you will notice that there is a "J" instead of a "C" as the first character.

Launch code on the WOPR:
JPE 1704 TKS

The above launch code is found at 01:40:30 time on the DVD.

There seems to be more than one launch code for the missiles.

According to http://www.amazon.ca/WarGames-Widescreen-John-Badham/dp/0792838467
The launch code that Joshua "figures out" for himself at the end of the movie is: CPE 1704 TKS

According to http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086567/goofs
The code to launch the missiles is "CPE1704TKS" when displayed on the big screen, but it is "JPE1704TKS" when printed above the manual launch control.

According to http://mike.passwall.com/uselesstrivia.html
It is either "CPE1704TKS" ( or "CPE 1704 TKS") or "JPE 1704 TKS"

And according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WarGames
When Joshua starts to search for the launch codes, you can see the first three letters of the launch code to be JPE. For the rest of the following sequence, however, the letters are CPE.

My official answer would have to be CPE1704TKS though. :-)

its also worth note that if you build the "Read-only" cable that is used for snort I just found something interesting. The 'internet' way to do this where you loop back the write to the switch will also disable a port on cisco switches for loopback. so you could also use this cable idea for a fun "disable all ports to 'err' on cisco switch in a university"
